Virginia Tech softball: Hokies defeat San Diego State in NCAA Tournament opener

The No 17 Virginia Tech Hokies softball team kicked off the NCAA Tournament with a 5-1 victory over the San Diego State Aztecs in Los Angeles.

Junior pitcher Emma Lemley did what she does best, going the distance with seven strong innings, allowing only three hits and one run. The Aztecs scored their only run in the sixth inning, but it was far too late after the Hokies opened a 5-0 lead.

The victory was Lemley’s 50th career win.
